I am a descendant of Mathias Crum Sr. who is known to have been born in Germany abt. 1740 and is of record as having settled in Montgomery Co., VA in 1772. He and his descendants are the subject of Dr. Ferris Crum's book "A Crum Family in America", 1965, as is Anthony Crum Sr. of Frederick Co., VA. This Mathias, however, had three sons: John (b. in Germany abt. 1859), Jacob, and Mathias Jr. (both b. America), all of whom moved first to KY and then over into Clark Co., IN in the first decade of the 1800s. There are no Abrahams associated with this Mathias Sr.; coincidentally, his son John DID have a son Abraham b. 1807. I have researched Dr. Crum's data and have been able to confirm it and add to it. So far, it would seem that the relationship between Mathias Sr. and Anthony Crum of Frederick Co., VA, while possible, has not been satisfactorily proven. I would be very curious to know the sources for your data on the Anthony > Mathias Sr. > Abraham Sr. > Abraham Jr. succession. Is it possible that there were two Mathias Crum Sr.s roaming about them thar hills?
