Well, as if things weren't confusing enough. I just found a reference to a John Crum b. 1777 who was captured by Indians in 1790 and held for 5 years in Hamilton County Ohio. My John, according to the 1850 census, would have been born in 1770 and was supposed to have been captured by Indians when a small boy (another source says he was 9) and released when he was 18. The Hamilton County John would have been 17 or 18 when released. Also, my John would later marry in Butler County Ohio, just to the north of Hamilton County. (After a brief stint in Greene Co., OH). I find this a little too close to not possibly be one in the same fellow. Reading your information on Peter brings to mind another story I have heard recently about another Crum family whose three daughters were captured by Indians and one was scalped and survived. Seems like the Crums didn't do so well around Native Americans. Any more info, please email me. Thanks!
