According to History of Huntingdon County, PA, a mill in Porter township "was operated in the later years of the Revolution by lessees, one of whom, Peter Crum, was killed by Indians while proceeding to his home in the present township of Logan." Perhaps Peter was John's father, and John was captured when Peter was killed. I believe this Peter Crum is the son of Gilbert Crum (Gysbert Krom), who was born in NY in 1700, moved to NJ, and later to Frederick Co., MD, where he died in 1762. He had 11 children, 10 of whom are named in his will. I believe 2 sons, Cornelius and Peter, moved to Huntingdon Co. PA; 2 other sons, Gilbert and Abraham, moved to Bedford Co. VA; and the other 2 sons, John and William, stayed in MD, at least for awhile. The lineage of Gysbert Krom, back to the Netherlands, is in Krom-Krum Genealogy by Louise Seymour Hasbrouck Zinn.
