I found a childrens book in the library on inventions. The potato chip was there. Said that Chief George Crumm invented them. He was an Indian and was cook, that a patron wanted the potatoes he was eating crisper and kept sending them back. That George became angry and fried them. People loved them. Is all I know. D.
