This is just a note to say that my Cruce family mystery has been solved thanks to the help of Don "Cruce" Hodge and the Pricilla Montgomery book. The "John" that I was searching for in the previous post proved to indeed be John Pharris Cruce, who (in what I am sure will be a huge surprise to other Georgia Cruce family members) actually did make it to Arkansas without being killed by Indians. As I told Don, I think that it is extremely interesting that my grandmother, Nellie Kate Banks, believed with all of her heart that her grandfather, John Pharris, and his family were killed by Indians on their way to Arkansas. I suppose that is because his grand-daughter Martha Ellen and the rest of the Georgia line never heard from them again. I wonder how different things would have been if Stephen Olive Cruce (my gg-grandfather, John Pharris' eldest son) would have survived the Civil War. He might have tried a little harder to find the rest of his family. I just wish my grandmother and her mom were still alive to learn about all of these answers to our Cruce family mystery. 1.
