Joseph Crozier, farmer, section 15, Union Township, came to this county in October 1841, and first settled on the farm now owned by Elijah Krick. He lives on that farm two years then entered his present farm from the government, and had occupied it since that time.
The land was in a perfectly wild state. He built his log cabin which stood on the site of his present home.
Mr. Crozier was born in Dauphin Co., Pa., Oct. 5, 1816, and when he was a child was taken by his parents to Perry Co., Pa., where he grew to manhood. He was married in Stark Co., Ohio, May 19, 1839 to Miss Christine Raver, born in that county Sept. 11, 1821. After their marriage they lived in Starke Co. Samuel died in a hospital while he was in the army of the 47th Indiana Infantry, in New Orleans, La.
George died at home. Elia also died at home Feb. 22, 1873.
William died in infantancy as did Elizabeth.
August 10, 1858, Mr. Crozier was married secondlyto Miss Anna Trimble, who was born in Crawford Co., Ohio Aug. 27, 1826, where she spent her childhood. She moved with her mother to Van Wert County.
Feb. 15, 1873 her mother died at the age of 77 years. The mother was born in Muskingum Co., Ohio in 1796. The father died in Crawford Co., Ohio, when she was quite young, he was past seventy years. There were eight children in her family, Mrs. Anna (Trimble) Crozier being the third Trimble child, only two are living at this time, she and her sister, Mrs. Ensworth of Union Township.
Mr. Joseph Crozier's parents were Samuel and Mary (Lehr) Crozier. Samuel was born in Penn. about 1786 and served in the War of 1812. He died in Allen County, Ind., July 1872, and is buried near Mapleton, Ind. (Maples) He was a Blacksmith by trade, and followed blacksmithing most of his life.
Mary (Lehr) Crozier was born in Dauphin Co., Pa., and died in Allen County Ind., in 1857, she was 60 years old, born 1797.
Mr. Crozier and his present wife have no children. His grandfather Joseph Crozier was born in Ireland and came to America, settling on the Susquehanna River in Penn. He died in Penn. His wife was the daughter of Hugh and Mary Trimble, also of Irish descent. Joseph Crozier married Anna Trimble who was a cousin to him.
Mr. and Mrs Hugh Trimble died in Crawford County, Ohio.
Joseph Crozier was the eldest of eight children. He died 1899.
The Lehr family were of German descent.
Sarah Jane Crozier was the only daughter of Joseph Crozier.
She married Smith Stevens, May 2, 1875.
