Helen Crownover was my mother in law. She began researching her husband's family in Pennsylvania. With the exception of the 1778 will of John Covenhoven in Berkeley county, Viginia, the source of her information on the southern Crownovers was correspondence.
Brothers Benjamin, Joseph, and Daniel Crownover were in South Carolina on the 1790 census. They moved there after their father's death. Their brother William remained in Virginia, and the eldest, John, lived in present Huntingdon county PA. Also named in John Sr's will was unmarried daughters Ann, Ruth, Betty, Polly/Mary. They all named their children after their siblings as well as parents John and Lydia.
"Your" Elizabeth could also be an unknown daughter of Daniel or Joseph. Elizabeth Crownover Fulcrod could be someone's granddaughter.
It's not likely that they were Tories. Daniel, Joseph, and William were veterans, and their widowed mother Lydia Predmore Covenhoven gave to the efort in Virginia.
