CROWLEY - NIGHAN in Aberavon, Wales WANTED!
Dear Listers,
I received another piece of the puzzle from the GRO ... the death certificate of my gg-grandfather, Daniel NIGHEN.
Daniel, of Mountain Row, died June 6, 1871, of bronchitis debility. John CROWLEY was present at the death.
John CROWLEY was still living on Church Street on August 2, 1876, when Ann NIGHEN died, widow of Daniel. He is termed "son-in-law" and was present at her death. (certified)
I have John CROWLEY married to Johanna NIHEN, daughter of Daniel NIHEN, on March 20, 1854. (certified)
This establishes the NIHEN residency on Mountain Row from the 1851 Census until at least 1876. The CROWLEYS continued on in Aberavon until a future date ... The Free BMD shows a Johanna Crowley who died (Neath registry) in March 1893. I'm willing to bet next month's mortgage money that this is Johanna NIHEN.
A couple of more clues: kids! Johanna and John CROWLEY had two of them, according to the 1861 Census: John (age 2) and Ellen (age 6), and they were living on Charlotte Street at the time. So, by the time Mom died, the kids were ages 34 and 40.
Well, we're almost up to the 20th Century. Are there any CROWLEY researchers out there who recognize my bunch?
Thanks,
Joe Nihen
