Thank you for your article, which addressed several questions I had about our immigrant ancestor. The tradition in my family has been that Elishua was an indentured servant--of course, a goodly percentage of immigrants were indentured in one way or another. I tended to discount it as a romantic story, but it may well be true. I saw in "One Hundred Sixty Allied Families" that Elishua was admitted to the Charlestown church previous to John's arrival, and figured that they must have already been married in order for the connection to the Crowe's to be recorded since we don't know her family name.
