Hi Elbert - I have to agree with much of what you have written with respect to John and Elishua, but I have long been puzzled by the record of John leaving from Weymouth on the "Hopewell" in the far south of England. Previously, I discounted this as our John, because it was such a great distance from Norfolk (where he could have easily shipped out). However, I am having second thoughts.I visited Carleton Rode several years ago and picked up a number of manorial records compiled by the local genealogical society. Going back over the Crowe families of 16-17th century Norfolk, there are 2 John Crowe's that could be ours. One of the Johns had a father, Thomas (fits into our naming pattern), who is listed as "deceased of Ely" in 1609. Now, there are two Elys, one in Cambridgeshire (not far from Norfolk) and the other in Wales (not far from Weymouth). Either way, John could have been raised by Thomas in Ely and, in 1609, after his father's death, returned to the Crowe family homestead in Norfolk (Uncle Christopher had property in Mileham). There he likely met his first wife and later, Elishua. By 1633, the civil war was rising in Norfolk and elsewhere. John would reasonably put Elishua on the "Elizabeth Bonaventure" with the Chubbocks and take his 3 children by his first wife to Ely. Whether it was the Ely in Cambridgeshire or in Wales, he was headed south and had plenty of time to reach Weymouth in 1635. Anyway, I'm working on this and have more to bolster the theory. Any thoughts? Lee
