Crowell Family Genealogy Forum

Dear Roger, We have a copy of a poem supposedly penned by the Cromwell's while enroute to America. It tells of 'The Cutting of the M', the poems title, where the M was actually cut out of the name, placed in a casket and thrown overboard, thus changing the name to Crowell. There's also a family book by Sarah Cantey Whitaker Allen, titled Our Children's Ancestors. The Halifax Crowells married into the Cantey family and are mentioned in this book. Have you heard of this book? We know of only one copy in the Milledgeville GA. library, but that was in 1975. Samual Crowell of Halifax had a son, Henry Bradford Crowell, who married Sarah Cantey. We think Samuel's father was Edward Crowell, possibly linked back to a Yelverton. But we are unsure of these connections. My mother was a Crowell and had always heard the story connecting us to Cromwell. Hope to hear from anyone who has information on this family. Thanks. Thomas Hawkins
