I am trying to complete my ancestral lineage back through the Crowell family of New Jersey and I have reached an impasse. Using our own family memorabilia, stories, and the resources of the Presbyterian Church records of Madison Township and Morristown as well as a book of wills in the Special Collections Library at Rutgers University, I have traced my lineage back to a John Crowell, wife Sarah, of Morristown. I strongly suspect that John's family originally came into Morris County from Woodbridge, NJ, but I have no proof of that. John and Sarah's son William Crowell who married Phebe Crane (records of this are found in the Morristown combined register and in the Madison Township records) is my direct ancestor in the next generation. John was born around 1745 and died of hasty consumption (found in mortality records posted online) in 1790. Sarah had died a few years prior to this. John left a widow (second wife) name Deborah, who was pregnant when he died. If you have any ideas as to where John Crowell fits into the genealogy of the Crowells of New Jersey, I would be appreciative of the help.
