Thanks so much for all the information.

The picture gallery was for earlier. And a B.B. James most likely is related to my James line somehow. I was told that if I go to where the James Cemetery is and knock on any door I will find a distant cousin. As best I can tell on a map, the James Cemetery is located a little South of Polar Grove Rd, and Indian Creek Road somewhere in there. I am from the chicaogland area, so I have no clue what I am looking at. The records for Humphreys county seem spotty at best, mostely posted by familys who kept good records, you find much on some and very little on others. I am suspecting that martha Crowell and Thomas smith got married somewhere in NC, I will check the counties you mentioned. The reference I have is "my grandparents came over the hills from NC". They kept no birth records in TN so there is no records for my grandfather or ggrandfather's Smith. I don't know about Marrige records.

I do know however, that Martha Crowell was widowed young, in her 30's. She then married a wealthy land owner Wylie Sanders, who according to 1850 census was 60! So she must have done well for herself! I have Thomas being deceased somewhere around 1855, but got that off rootsweb from someone elses history, who I am unable to contact.

According to Confederate Pension, He was Thomas Bartlett Smith, she Martha Ann Smith. I am becoming stumped.

Are you in TN?
