My paternal grandmother, Mary Francis "Fannie" Hendry Thomason Franklin, was the daughter of Ida Cornelia Crowder and James Ellis Hendry. Ida was the daughter of Asbury N. Crowder and Catherine Anne "Kate" Hanson. Asbury N. was the son of Asbury D. Crowder (CSA - died POW at Ft. McHenry, MD, 05 June 1865) and Susan A. Isom Johnson. Asbury D. was the son of Dr. Daniel Groove Crowder and first wife, Louisa Anne Estes. (The Estes Line is documented back to 1495 in England.) They married 22 Jan. 1839 and had 12 children. Marriage record can be obtained from the Troup Co. Probate Ct, LaGrange, GA. Listed in the 1840 census of Chambers Co., Oakland Community; Hickory Flat Dist. 1 in 1850; and Randolph Co. Rock Mills Dist., AL in 1860. Daniel is buried in the Fellowship Baptist Church Cemetery, Randolph Co., AL, beside his two wives. Louisa's grave is unmarked. This branch of Crowders is covered extensively in the book, The Reason for the Tears, A History of Chambers County, AL by Bobby Lindsey. (It has a few mistakes such as my g grandfather's surname Hendry is listed as Henry and I have not been able to find any supporting evidence that Bartholomew Crowder #3 was an Am. Rev. War patriot; but, overall, it is pretty accurate and has pictures!) There used to be a town named Crowderville. Evidence of Crowder- ville remains near the Glass Bridge crossing the Chattahoochee River in Troup Co., GA. Daniel's brother and guardian, Garrett P., owned a grist mill, spinning mill and farmed. One of his crops was Crowder peas, named for the family. I found this information in the Ledger- Enquirer East Alabama TODAY newspaper, dated Feb. 7-8, 1973. I have considerable information on this branch. I don't mind sharing. I still have relatives in Chambers Co., AL and Troup Co., GA.
