I have a copy of a page of the 1860 census of Rockingham Co.,NC, which has an Elizabeth Cardswell, 49, living 2 houses from Jeremiah Crowder. The others living with her, children I guess, are Maria, 23, Joseph, 20, Pleasant, 16, and Richard, 14. I don't know if she is related to the Sarah that you're looking for, but since she has a child named Richard living with her, I thought there was a possibility. Also, since she's living in close proximity to a Crowder, I thought there might be a connection. Let me know if you find this helps.
