Mike,

I appologize for ending my previous response so abruptly - I realized I needed to pick up children. I have been researching this Crowder family for several years because I believe they are my line. My gggrandfather was Anderson Scott Crowder, b. 1834 in Guilford Co., NC. I don't know for certain who his parents were, because he was in northern KY by 1850, living with a Simpson family from NC. Hence my interest in this line, since they were the only Crowder family I find in Guilford/Rockingham Co. in this time period.

Jerimiah Crowder died in Guilford Co. in 1795 leaving wife Marthy and children Pleasant, Isaac, William, John, Anderson, Jerimiah, Elizabeth, Fanny Wilson Crowder, Patsy, and Sary Pritchett Crowder. Joseph Pritchett was son-in-law. Isaac, Sarah, and Pleasant had moved to IN by 1830, Jeremiah in early 1835. Anderson was the only one left in Rockingham Co. (I don't know what happened to John and William.)

I started out trying to follow this Anderson simply because of his name. I found land records indicating that he bought and sold land in Rockingham Co. starting in 1817. There was a title bond written in Sept. 1834 saying that Anderson Crowder bought 155 acres of land in Rockingham Co. from James D. Taylor for $160. The condition of this bond (as well as I can understand it) was that Crowder could begin to live on the land as soon as he wanted to but that he would not get the deed of conveyance for the land until he had paid all the money. This was not proved until 1856 when, apparently, James Taylor had died and they were settling his estate. In 1857, the administrator of Taylor's estate deeded the land to the legal heirs of Anderson Crowder, who had also died intestate, those heirs being his children, Jeremiah M. Crowder, Jacob Crowder, Samuel D. Crowder, Anderson Crowder, Polly Crowder Green (husband William), Jane Crowder Vincent (husband Thomas), Patsey Crowder Solomon (husband Joseph), and Isabella Crowder. A wife is not named. It's my belief that this is your Jeremiah who married Elizabeth (Jenny) Hall and Eliza Simpson, and the Anderson is my ancestor.

Let me know if this works with what you have found. I look foward to hearing from you.

Cheryl
