My grandfather, Ralph Crowder, was born on October 1903 in Springfield Illinois. The only thing he told his family of his roots is that his fathers name was George Crowder and that he was a ranch hand or something like that. He married Mary Ellen Roberts whose well-to-do family disowned her when she married George. They had 2 sons. My grandpa Ralph and his brother Harry (Harold?). George died at a young age and Mary Ellen, left with 2 boys and no money, had a breakdown of sorts. She was sent to a mental institution and my grandpa and his brother were raised by relatives. My grandpa quit school at about 15 years of age so that he could work and pay for his mother to get out of the institution. This is all we know. We do not know where George or Mary Ellen were born or who thier families were. I would appreciate any information anyone may have.
