Crowder murdered N.Ga

Looking for anything on Alf(Alford)Crowder,ambushed and shot off his horse. Family legend has this happening in two different places in N.Ga.One source says Menlo in Chattooga co., another says Cherokee Co. Ga. Alf had at least two brothers, Ledford and John. Any of these names ring a bell with anybody?
