Shadrack Crouch abt 1745-Maryland>GA
Posted by: Vivian J. Worthington Date: July 10, 1998 at 10:22:57
  of 2098

Evidence indicates that Shadrach once lived in Maryland (-1) and probably lived in Virginia also before coming to Georgia(-2). the first record of Shadrack found is his registering for the 1805 land lottery. this shows that he and his two sons, George and John were living in Greene County at that time, The only Crouches registered in the whole state of Georgia. This also shows that all three had come to Georgia by 1802, that the two sons George and John were already married, that Shadrack's wife had died and he had no minor children because George and John had two draws and Shadrack only one. Only George won a land lot (-3). At the present time the number of land lot is knot know but it can be found in the Surveyor General's office at the Archives in Atlanta by reading through the third district Baldwin. the number was not given in any known Putnam county records. By 1807 Shadrack and George had moved to Baldwin County. Shadrack had no property. George owned 202 1/2 acres on Lick Creek, drawn by "self" (-4). On December 9, 1807 Putnam County was crated from Baldwin County (-5) and included all of district 3. Not all of Putnam County tax digests survived. In the first existing tax digest 1812, George was agent for Shadrack and continued in existing tax digests at least through __________ and was no longer shown in the tax digest probably indicating he had become 65 and owned not property. Apparently he won two land plots in the 1820 lottery. being eligible for two draws as an indigent revolutionary soldier - Section 22 Lot 32 in Early county and Section 11 lot 8 in Irwin (-7). In the 1827 lottery Shadrach Crouch Sr. drew lot 197 dist 10 sec 3 which was in Troup County (-8). He sold this to George Crouch for $200 on June 1, 1827 (-9). Shadrack died probably in December 1827. His will written tin 1821 was probated January 1, 1828. In this he named his sons John and George, his daughter Laviner Jackson and Polly Welch. No returns on the estate were recorded by his executor, George Crouch.

***Shadrack Crouch has now been found in the 1793 Green County Tax digest in Capt. Benjamin Whitfield militia District with no property or slaves. Neither of his sons were listed. In the 1797 He was listed with 115 acres.
