Good Morning,
My grandfather, William Paul Matherly, was married three times. He was born: 1 Sept 1881 in Pittsylvania County, VA. And died on 14 Jan, 1955 in Pittsylvania County, VA.
His parents were: Charles Chesley Matherly, b: 8 May, 1854.
Lucy Wade Barbour, b: 1856. They were married on 26 Aug, 1877 in Pittsylvania County, VA.
His first wife was Ada Belle Crouch b:10 Sep, 1897 in Pittsylvania County, VA. They were married on 11 March, 1925 in Pittsylvania County, VA. Both are buried in Franklin County, VA at "Liberty Memorial Cemetery."
His second wife's name was Lessie Gray Myers Hammock. Her first husband was my g-g-grandfather, Nathaniel Hammock, on my grandmother's side of the family (William's third wife).Nathaniel Hammock was my grandmother's grandfather. I haven't found out much about her, as of yet. But still searching.
His third wife, my grandmother, Arebelle Washington Hammock was born 7 Aug, 1906 in Franklin County, VA and died on 23 Sep, 1990 in Martinsville, VA. They were married on 24 June, 1930 in Franklin County, VA. She also is buried next to William Paul Matherly at "Liberty Memorial Cemetery." Her parents were William F. Hammock b: 5 May, 1877 in Pittsylvania County, VA. Died in 1950. His wife's name was Martha ???.
William and Arebelle had six children.
1.Lillie married Cecil Adkins
2.Lucy married Charles Franklin
3.Jack Matherly married Betty ??; married Linda ??.
4.Charlie Matherly (dead)
5.Jackie Matherly Beamer never married (she was adopted by the Beamer family)
6.Bertha Marie Matherly (my mother) married Kenneth Wayne Brown (my father died when I was 4 yrs old); 2nd husband Calvin Curtis Craig (died in 2001). He was an angel sent to us from Heaven.
