I am very glad to hear from you on the William Crouch Family. I have been searching for years for William Dorris Crouch's family. I found the Crouch family in Giles Co., Tennessee about 4 years ago. I appreciate you sending the spouses of Mary and Nancy. I don't have spouses for any of the children except William D., Jr.
I find the children of William Sr. and Sarah on the 1850 Census Limestone Co., Alabama and the 1860 Census, Giles Co., Tennessee.
Listed in 1850 Limestone Co., Ala. Census are their children,
1. William D. age 15, farmer, b. Ala.
2. Mary A., age 14, b. Ala.
3. Isaac, age 11, b. Ala.
4. Nancy A., age 08, b. Tenn.
5. Sarah J., age 07, b. Ala.
6. Amelia, age 05, b. Tenn.
7. Martha E., age 01, b. Tenn.
1860 Census, Giles Co., Tenn.
Children are:
1. Mary A. E., age 21, b. Ala.
2. Isaac A., age 20, b. Ala.
3. Joseph R., age 17, b. Ala.
5. Nancy A., age 16, b. Ala.
6. Sarah J., age 14, b. Ala.
7. Demy A. T. age 09, b. Ala.
Did William D. Jr. also have a wife named Sarah?
In the 1880 Giles Co., Tenn. Census are listed:
Crouch, W. D. age 45, b. Ala.
Sarah, wife, age 37, b. Ala.
Children:
1. Sarah, dau. age 22, b. Ala. I have marriage cert. for Sarah. She married John W. Dollar, 26 Dec 1879 in Giles Co.
2. Josie, dau. age 19, b. Ala.
3.John, son. age 17, b. Ala.
4. James, son, age 13, b. Ala.
5. Thomas, son, age 11, b . Ala.
6. Mary, dau, age 09, b. Ala.
7. Joe, son, age 07, b. Ala.
Also living with them is:
Petin, Erlau (sic) gr. dau., age 02, b. Ala.
Petin, Infant, gr. son, age 2/12, b. Ala.
I am not sure who the last two children belong to. Could it be that Sarah married a Petin instead of John Dollar? On the census the name Petin is not very clear. It is at the bottom of the census and it is very dark.
William D. Crouch, Jr. & Sarah have one more child. He is William Dorris Crouch, my husband's great grandfather. On the 1880 census he is working for the Downes/Downs or the Hurd/Heard family. I have this in my notes. He married Synthia L. Downs daughter of James Allen Milton Downs and his wife Nancy Jane Hurd/Heard.
