I would enjoy conversation with a desendant of this CROTHERS. We are working on the history of the town and would like to establish contact with this "CROTHERS" Crothersville, is a small town in Jackson County, Indiana. Founded in 1835 and originally called Haysville. Shortly after this the name was changed to Crothersville, for Mr. or Dr. Crothers, a railroad superintendent. The Jeffersonville Railroad Company was chartered in 1832, but delays led to subsequent re-charterings. The line from Jeffersonville to Columbus was not completed until 1852. This line was to run through HAYSVILLE/CROTHERSVILLE by which a proposition was made by Mr./Dr. Crothers, at that time superintendent of the Jeffersonville, Madison & Indianapolis Railroad, to change the name to Crothersville, withthe promise that he would build a depot that would be an ornament to the town. This promise he faithfully kept, and accordingly erected one of the best buildings to be found anywhere along the line of the road. Notify Administrator about this message?
