Smighten's parents were given as James H. Crosman and Mehitable B. (Potter?). Smighten was born 23 Jul 1840 in Portland, Cumberland, Maine, USA. He met his wife Caroline Barbara Bergfels while serving w/ her brothers in the 1st New Jersey Cavalry during the American Civil War. Smighten died 5 Oct 1890, after working as a slater in the Boston, Ma area, and is buried in the Mt Hope Cemetery in Mattapan, Suffolk, MA, USA.
