William,I don't think you'll have much luck finding any Crossley roots in Scotland. CROSSLEY is an English name with its origins in Yorkshire, which I have always found quite embarrassing as I, my father, my grandfather, my great grandfather, and great great grandfather were all born in Lancashire. (If you want to know why that is embarrasing look up War of the Roses.) You will still find the greatest concentration of Crossley's in and around Sheffield, Yorkshire, England. I was led to believe by my father that the name was derived from an old English word that sounds something like "lee", which meant either a clearing in a wood or a small field. And that Crossley was probably used to denote the people who lived in or by the "Cross Lee". Which could have meant that the "lee" was in the shape of a cross or was perhaps that it was close to or by a cross. I have never had this theory confirmed, but if such a place did ever exist, it must have been somewhere close to present day Sheffield. Good hunting Roger Crossley
