Michele, I am just starting on the Crosskey line in an attempt to complete deadends in my Ladson/Manning lines.
I find John Crosskeys, b. 1730, St Bartholomews Parish, m. to Jemina (Jemima)Manning (1741-1794), unconfirmed. Again unconfirmed, son John Mell, Sarah, and Ann "Nancy". Daughter Sarah (1762-1795) listed as married (1) James Ladson and (2) Wm McCants. Daughter Ann m. (1) Capt Francis Fawson and (2) Joseph McCants.
In the SC Archives, I find a Judgement Roll, dated 26 Mar 1798, James Ladson vs Wm McCants, Joseph McCants, & James Mell Croskeys (spelling as listed in Archives) as Exors. for John Corskeys.
I also find a Renunciation, dated (no day/month) 1784, from Judith Ladson, wife of James Ladson, to John Croskeys. Now, from my research, I identify Judith as Judith Smith d. 5 Sep 1820, wife of James Ladson b. Jul 1753 d. 30 Jan 1812.
I also have an unidentified transcription of John Crosskey's Will, Charleston Probate Court, vol. 24, 313:
'" Mentions loving wife, Jemima, son James Mell Crosskeys, loving daughters, Ann McCants and Sarah McCants, beloved granddaughters, Ann Ladson and Frances Ann Fawson (believed to be the child of Ann McCants and Francis Fawson), two beloved son-in-laws, William McCants and Joseph McCants (two sisters m. two brothers). Will dated 29 Sep 1789, proved 22 Feb 1791."'
There are some obvious problems: 1) John Mell must be James Mell, as Will only mentions one son; dates don't provide for James Ladson remarrying to Judith Smith after Sarah's death because Sarah is referred to in her father's will as Sarah McCant.
I would suspect that someone has confused the many, many James Ladson's b. c. 1750, but the Judith Ladson renunciation is momentarily confusing me.
I can't find a Sarah Crosskey or Croskey in the Archives connected to a Lluellin/Louallen/L'Ouillin, but I am assuming from dates of birth that Sarah and John are either sister and brother, or cousins. Perhaps something in this will help you back-into your Sarah. Let me know if you find something! Sue
