Gage H. Cross died at his late home in Charlotte township, northeast of Chatsworth, on Sunday (July 11) morning, death being caused by lung trouble. About three years ago his health commenced to fail, and although he consulted many medical men he received little benefit and the ailment finally terminated in tubercular trouble.
Gage H. Cross was born in Lawrence county, Ohio, January 26, 1858. On June 30, 1878, he was united in marriage with Jennie W. Courtney. Eight children were born to the union, five sons and three daughters, one son having preceded the father in death. The wife and following children survive: Robert, Earl, Harland, Essie, Lawrence, Mabel and Mildred. He also leaves two brothers and two sisters -- Lewis, of Cincinnati, Ohio; Mrs. Wealthy Jack, of Patriot, Ind.; Mrs. Mary Stewart, of Stockton, Cal., and Frank, of Anchor -- a step-mother, Mrs. Mary Cross, of Colfax; two half-brothers and three half-sisters -- Mr. Ada McCreary, Burton Cross and Mrs. Angie McClellan, of Colfax; John Cross, of Anchor, and Mrs. Julia McClellan, of Cooksville. His father and mother and one brother preceded him in death.
The family came to this community a few years ago and have since resided northeast of Chatsworth. Mr. Cross was a man respected by his friends and neighbors, and his death is the cause of sorrow to all who knew him.
Short funeral services were held at the family residence on Tuesday morning, Rev. O.E. Clapp officiating, and the remains were take to Colfax on the noon train, where the interment took place at Wiley cemetery, funeral services being held at the Colfax M.E. Church. the pallbearers were his four sons and two brothres, Frank and Burton.
