Sue,

I can tell from the wording of you posting that you seem a bit angry about these 2 Cross fellows not being connected to Jesse Cross and Celia Dover.

And I am assuming you are referring to my posting (#7238) of Dec 2008, "Children of Jesse Cross & Celia Dover, Habersham Co, GA", where I have referred to the extensive research of SHARON SUKIENNIK, long recognized as one of the preeminent CROSS researchers.

I sent Sharon an email asking about these 2 other CROSS boys and yes, I do lean on her research.

If you can provide some documentation or proof, like bible records, I will be most happy to correct my information.

My goal is to provide genealogy, not to be "right".

Because we do not know where William Stephen is buried, probably in Hardin Co TX, there is no solid proof of his birth year. If we go from just census records, the date can be placed between 1826 and 1831.

In the 1900 Census Lango Station, Village Mills, Hardin, Texas, his birth is records as Oct 1826, listed age is 73, and he is living with brother-in-law, George W. Simpson.

In the 1860 Census, Stephen is living with brother Henry in Harin Co, TX and states he is 29, making him born abt 1831.

I believe the birth yr for Thomas Jefferson Cross is generally accepted as 1826 and John Robert Cross as 1823.

There is no disputing the following children or the birth where listed:
Rachael Cross b: abt 1820
Elsberry Cross b: abt 1823 (some say Alsberry)
William Stephen Cross b: 1826-1831
Miles Cross b: 1827
Mitchell Cross b: June 1832
Henry Cross b: 1833
George Washington Cross b: 1836
Mahaley Cross b?

In order to fit your 2 Cross men in this line up, John Robert would need to be the twin of Elsberry Cross, and Thomas Jefferson would need to be the twin of Wm Stephen or back to back with Miles.

The naming patterns of the children are also in question. Within T.J.'s children, he has only 2 children with "family names", a son George and a son Monroe.

Wm Stephen and Angelina Rodgers Cross used the following family names: Henry, Mitchell, Monroe, Thomas, Mahaley, Seley, Susan, Martha, Elsberry.

I believe the 2 CROSS boys you want to fit into the Jesse Cross/Celia Dover line may be from brothers of Jesse..I don't know because I have not researched those lines...but until I have stronger proof than someone's desires, I will stand by what I have and what Sharon Sukiennik has resarched.

Show me something and I will gladly change the lineages.

Sherry
