Westford, MA
Hello,
I borrowed the "History of Westford, MA" from the library this week. I've borrowed it before but not for 5 yrs. I wanted to review the information on my KIDDER, PARKER, KEYES, CHAMBERLAIN ancestors. While browsing the book, I discovered the CROSBY name is mentioned in the text of the book. It's not mentioned in the Genealogy section.
p. 155 mentions: Military Review: .. "Sept. 1797...Voted to give each man in Capt. Keyes' and Capt. Crosby's company fifty cents ....
p. 159 .. Andrew Spalding. He signed the church covenant October 1760, but probably was never a permanent resident. His son, Andrew, became a citizen, and also his step-son by the name of Crosby. He married in 1745, Mrs. Mehitable (Chandler) Crosby of Andover, and her sons, Jonah, Robert, Joel, and Josiah, came to Westford with her. They removed to New Ipswich soon -- about 1750 ...." (some moved to Maine before Revolution)
p. 321 Amos Crosby, the third preceptor, was tutor in Harvard College for four years, 1788-'92.
... For 4-5 yrs. I've been trying to find out about a Clarissa CROSBY who married in Westford, MA, in 1841 to a widower, Charles "Proctor" KIDDER, b1801 Westford. For many years no one knew that they had a child in 1846 in Westford. For a couple years I investigated all the CROSBY daughters born in area ~1800-1805. From census records she was born ~1804. .. It is not even known whether she was a Miss Clarissa CROSBY or a Mrs. (?) Clarissa CROSBY.
She remained in Westford and Chelmsford until 1860's, but in 1870 she was in Goffstown, NH, and she died there in 1878.
Now that I'm seeing there were CROSBY people in Westford in at least the 1740's and possibly up to 1790's, I'm thinking that Clarissa might be somehow related to them.
Does anyone have information on the CROSBY's who lived in New Ipswich, NH? I haven't looked at the "History of New Ipswich in 4-5 yrs.
