Pitts notes taken from old Family Bibles and copies of Wills and other data owned by the late Mr. R. H. Husdon, Box 427, Battleville, Oklahoma,,, "Essex Co., Va. David Pitts Will sn. 20 July 1780 pr. Oct 1783...Wife not listed and deceased...Family data states she was a Miss Cruikshanks...Children named in will as: Thomas...the land whereupon I now live; Tabitha Carnal...Liberty to live on above lands for two years; John Pitts...One scw, one featherbed and one horse.; David Pitts Jr...One negro man named Bob; Joseph Pitts & negro man named Ben; Lunsford Pitts & Ex...200a land whereon he now lives.; Elizabeth featherbed and half of slave girl Leny.; Hannah featherbed and half of slave girl Leny.;Susanna Elkins...One negro boy named Titus; Mary Conduit...two negro boys, Stephen & Bartlett and wench Lewesy; Sally Pitts...One wench named Rachel...................................In other parts of will other slaves and lands are given to the children above./Wit. Thomas Atkinson, Sarah Atkinson & Margaret Atkinson, Tanpahannock, Essex Co., Va...Hancock Lee J.P. & Clark Court.............Comment: The home tract of land willed to the son, Thomas Pitts, was same tract willed by John Pitts 23 Jan. 1728 to his wife Elizabeth Pitts and at her death to my grandson, John Pitts........Also Essex deed: John Pitts and dower by his wife Anne Pitts deed this 75a land to Martha Willard 16 Sept. 1750...The deed books do not show how David Pitts #1 acquired this land."
