Alan Crook or Newton Crook

My late grandfather, Newton Crook, was born in Fall City Nebraska and came west in a covered wagon with parents Alan and Rebecca Crook. We think (but are not sure) that Alan was the son of Thomas Crook, one of Gen. George Crook's brothers. Or was Alan the brother of George? We know that Gen Crook ended up in Nebraska.

My father is now 94, if that helps.
