According to Wood Co. WV History, Horatio Nelson CROOKS was born 16 Sept 1801 son of Dr. William and Jeanette Nesmith Crooks. His family moved to Pittsburgh, PA in 1811. He had a brother, William, and brother-in-law, James CARGILL. He married 1) Martha Nesmith PRATT. She died in 1842. He moved to Belleville, Wood Co. WV with his infant daughter, Sarah, and married Eliza ANDERSON. He died in 1873 at his home on the Ohio river bank near the head of Belleville Island.
