My line of Scottish Crook's in NC/KY/West Tn from Richard Crook
1. Richard left Scotland at age 16 in the company of some soldiers to come to America, around 1746. (see 3 below)
2. Crook family has "horns" or bumps on their ears, as long ago the Devil coveted the beautiful wife of the old Lord Crook- took him over one evening and they sired his child...hmmm maybe that explains the temper also ;-)
3. A riddle or pass-phrase: John Crook's father tied John Crook's father, and the answer is Underdown. Richard Crook was an officer during the Revolution and captured a tory named Stephen Underdown. They later became friends. When Richard was killed near the end of the war in an engagement against some Indians, Underdown married his widow.
