CRONK Janet Dorothy August 17, 1916 - May 10, 2009 Dorothy passed away peacefully at the age of 92, in Richmond General Hospital after a very full and wonderful life. Predeceased by her husband of 64 years John Robert (Bob), in December, 2008. Dorothy will be sorely missed by children Susan (Richard) Burbidge, Judith (Steve) Parent, Stephen (Ellen) Cronk. She loved and was extremely proud of her grandchildren Scott (Natasha) Burbidge, Kimberley (Adam) Houghton, Rebecca (Richard) Morley, Max and Zach Cronk. Words cannot express how much she adored her 5 great-grandchildren, Colton and Jackson Burbidge, Elliott Houghton, Taylor and Ty Morley. As they grow they will learn how to live life to its fullest with courage and dignity, qualities Dorothy demonstrated every day especially during the past 6 years. Dorothy was born and raised in Montreal, Quebec. During WWII she danced for the USO. Dorothy and Bob met just months before he was to be shipped overseas. They were married on September 17, 1944 shortly after his return. Daughter Susan was born in Ottawa where Bob was stationed. After leaving the service Dorothy, Bob and Susan moved to Vancouver where the twins, Judith and Stephen were born. As the children grew Dorothy became a chauffeur for her kids as they where very involved in sport, especially competitive swimming. She enjoyed curling and golf then later in life took up bowling. Dorothy volunteered for many organizations over the years: Vancouver Opera Society, Kerrisdale Community Centre, Vancouver Amateur Swim Club, the Arbutus Club Curling and lent a hand wherever she was needed. Dorothy and Bob travelled or lived in over 52 countries after Bob retired. The pictures and the memories they shared with family and friends will be cherished forever. Through these trips they developed lasting friendships all over the world. Dorothy was more than a wonderful wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma. She was a true friend to all who knew her and had a wonderful sense of humor and zest for life. Dorothy loved to sing, which many times brought a smile to anyone's face. The family would like to thank the extraordinary staff on the 3rd floor South at Richmond General Hospital, for their caring and kindness towards our mother during her struggle. A very special thank you to Dr. Peter Chee for his compassion, guidance and spirituality during our most difficult decisions. To Nelson, her companion for the past few years, you will be forever in our hearts for the caring and love you showed our Mom. Dorothy will be missed by family, extended family, friends and by anyone's life she touched. She was the ultimate "energizer bunny". In lieu of flowers donations in Dorothy's name to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation ( www.heartandstrokefoundation.ca , 1212 West Broadway,Vancouver,B.C. V6H 3V1, 604-736-4404 would be appreciated. A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held on Sunday, May 24, 2009 at the Vancouver Airport Marriott Hotel, 7571 Westminster Hwy, Richmond from 1-3pm.
