Dan, thanks for the reply. I know nothing about my family's history beyond my grandparents. I'm told though, that my paternal grandmother's family have links to the Ashby de la Zouche area of Leicestershire and may have worked the canals. Also on my father's side there are links to a French line, 'Corquin' (phon) and that one of this family had worked as a translator for the English during the Crimean War.
