Jim:
My father's maternal line was Croft from Lincolnshire. William II, my great-great-great-great grandfather, was a foot soldier in the Royal North Lincoln Militia during the Napoleonic Wars, and two of his sons, William III and Thomas, went from the militia to the regular army during the war. William III, my ancestor, ended up in Canada, but Thomas went back to Hundleby near Spilsby. His son, Thomas II, born near Hundleby about 1823, appeared at 1 Hollingshead Bds, Great Grimsby, in the 1881 census.
Is that anything you might have come across while tracing your wife's line?
Al Fortier
