A PIONEER CALLED HENCE.
Was Here Many Years Before the Iron Horse Came.
Dallas, Nov. 12.-Mrs. Catherine W. Polk Crockett, wife of Col. John McClannahan Crockett, died on Sunday evening at 6:20 o'clock at her residence at Koose, Texas. She was of the Polk families of the Carolinas and of Tennessee. She was married to Col. Crockett in Western Tennessee on March 17, 1837. Ten years later they came to Texas settling first for a short time in Paris. In 1848 they came on horseback from Paris to Dallas and made their home there. As the wife of a man who served when Dallas County was a large part of North Texas, who was afterward in the Legislature of the State and was a wartime Lieutenant Governor, Mrs. Crockett had a large acquaintance all over Texas and had always been a woman of wide information and great popularity.
