I would like to put forth another theory of who Margaret Crockett was. She was named I believe in the early records of Dumplin Creek Baptist Church in Jefferson Co.I believe she was the wife of John A. Crockett who was probably the son of William Crockett (Davy's uncle)who bought land on Dumplin Creek.John Crockett was born in 1775 and according to the census of 1850 was born in Tennessee or what became Tennessee. His wife Margaret is buried by him in Zion Hill Baptist Cemetery in McMinn Co.Later in the church records another Margaret Crockett is mentioned.I believe that this is John and Margaret Crockett's daughter who married Robert M. Newman who was also raised in Jefferson Co.They married as teenagers and later move to McMinn Co.
If the census records are correct and John Crockett are correct, his birth in 1775 would be about the time that David, the elder, and his sons moved to Tennessee to what is now Hawkins Co. I believe William's other sons William and David were born back in the Carolinas very close to the North-South Carolina border after William moved back there. As I said, I believe; this is speculation based on fact and I could be wrong.
