Crocker family, Isle of Wight and Suffolk, VA
Posted by: Ginny Holloway (ID *****1895) Date: January 22, 2010 at 06:19:45

My grandmother was Bernice Crocker, born 1897 Suffolk VA. Her father was William Joseph Crocker, born 1872 Isle of Wight County, VA. He lived in Chuckatuck as a small boy.

William, his brother Benjamin, and their father Joshua worked at the lumber mill in Suffolk, VA. In 1930, William lived in Holy Neck,Nansemond County,VA, where he died later that year.

William's father Joshua Crocker, born 1826, Isle of Wight Co., was a farmer. He married twice, first to Eliza Gray, by whom he had 2 girls and 2 boys. Second he married Sarah (Crocker?), who was mother of William, Benjamin and 2 girls. Joshua died in 1881 at Chuckatuck, Nasemond, VA.

This is as far as I have been able to go back. I am guessing there is a connection to the Crocker family in Isle of Wight Co., VA, back to Anthony Crocker born 1640 Devon, England, who was the first to come to Virginia.

If anyone has more detailed info about the Crockers of Isle of Wight, VA, I would be glad of the help!

Thanks
