Josiah Crooker was born 12 Nov 1778 at Pembroke, MA. He was the son of Jonathan Crooker (b. 27 May 1746 Pembroke) and Ursula Barker (b. 5 Mar 1748 Pembroke) Josiah Crooker is descended from Francis Crooker and Mary Gaunt of Marshfield, MA. Francis Crooker is the son of Sir Hugh Cro(c)ker and Elisabeth Colleton of Exeter, Devon, England.

Josiah Crooker and Joanna Chruchill moved to Pomfret, Vermont by 1800 and removed to Barford, Stanstead, Ontario, Canada in 1832. In 1848 Josiah moved to Buffalo, Marquette, Wisconsin.
