And a large haystack it is! KOVAČ (correct spelling) is the 14th most common name in Croatia. Kovac = smith (like a blacksmith).

ŠPEHAR (sounds like shay hahrr) is the 258th most common name in Croatia.

Thomas in Croatian is Tomo

George = Jure, Juraj or Gjuro

Frank = Franjo or Frane

However.... Croatians do not have middle names

There are ship manifests for Tomo SPEHAR born c. 1866 from Cerovnik which is in the Kordun region of Croatia.

St Peter would be Sveti Petar in Croatian. There are several places by this name in Croatia, including one about 10 miles from Cerovnik.
