Robert,

Thanks for your info and links.

I am trying a help a distant cousin whose family name was spelled as Seball, Sebali and Sebell. Since they declared they were born in Austria (1873) and their mother tongue was Croatian, I believe the correct spelling is Sebalj.

I have found the Naturalization Papers for a Sebalj born in Vukova, but he is not related to my distant cousin.

I have also found out that the name seems to be pretty common in present-day Croatia: the onlin phone book lists about 300 people carrying that name. Do you know if this surname appears in a specific part of Croatia or is found everywhere in the country? It could help us narrow the search.

Regards,
Gilberto
