Thank you very much, Robert, for this wonderful information! Even with all the info you provided me from the manifests for Bara (Barbara) Rubinic and Jure/Juraj (George) Bartos (Bortas), it still took me awhile to locate the manifests through Ancestry or Ellisisland.org. I doubt I would have ever found them, were it not for you.

I, too, had found the birth certificate for Stefan Zold Bortas and Stefan & Barbara's marriage certificate at familysearch labs, a great site.

If you couldn't find Stefan/Stjepan's ship manifest, then I doubt I will manage to. I had ruled out the accuracy of his claim that he'd come on the Barbarossa through Baltimore in 1902 (or any year thereabouts), but that is what he stated on all his naturalization papers.

What do you think of my thought to write to Bortas and Rubinic households in the towns mentioned in these records as their origin towns, Bukovje & Lug? I would try the current day town names you mentioned. The family story is that Stefan Bortas other brother, Ivan, returned to Croatia.

Again, thank you very much. I see that your Croatian Heritage Museum has lots of great information. I'll certainly explore it more fully.
Ginger
