Ginger,

The first issue is the Barbarosa did not land at Baltimore in 1902

Bara = Barbara

Name: Bara Rubinic
Arrival Date: 27 Feb 1907
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1889
Age: 18
Gender: Female
Port of Departure: Antwerp, Belgium
Race: Croatian
Ship Name: Zeeland
Former Residence Bukovlje
Destination to bro Ivan at Morgan St 658

Perhaps Bara was from Bukovje Podvrško a bit to the SW of Samobor, as there are RUBINIC found there today.

And it appears the your BORTAS were not from Samobor proper. There is a ship manifest for

Jure/Juraj = George

Name: Jure Bartos
Arrival Date: 7 Mar 1911
Estimated Birth Year: abt 1892
Age: 19
Gender: Male
Port of Departure: Bremen
Race: Croatian
Ship Name: Kronprinz Wilhelm
Destination to brother Stjepan (=Stefan) at Chicago
Former Residence Lug, next of kin father Martin BORTAS at 5 Lug, Samobor (lug = forest)

There BORTAS listed at Lug Samoborski in the phone book.

The following confirms the info above (in spite of the spellings)(Hrvacko must be Hrvatska which means Croatia)

You can find this record along with Stefan's and Barbara's Marriage Certificate online at

As far as Stefan or Stjepan's ship manifest either it is so badly mis-transcribed that we can not find it or... he used someone else's passport which was not uncommon.
