I have basically the same information you do. With regard to the last name, I think Downs is correct. I grew up in St. Helena Parish, LA, raised partly by my grandmother. She was the ggranddaughter of Daniel McKinney and Stacey Crittenden, Thomas Crittenden's daughter. She had a sister whose full maiden name was Eleanor Downs Crittenden McKinney. She told me her sister was named for their ggggrandmother.
