I have: Lucy Pleasant CRITTENDEN b 1810 St Helena Parrish La. Died 1880 Smith co Ms. Marr John Franklin COLE. Issue: Susannah; Adaline; Saluda Ann; John Marion; Jesse Bailey; Thomas Jefferson; Lucy Jeptha Newton; Hannah; Frances Florence.
When lower part of La, Ms, Ala, Ga & Fla were known as Spanish Fla; Thomas & Jeremiah CRITTENDEN had moved into that area which was later known as The Old Natchez District of Ms.This was in the late 1700s. Where did they come from? Were they French? or Spanish? or had they come from Nova Scotia with the exiles? There are a few land records/census records listing them. Lucy who marr John F Cole was known as an Indian maiden bef her marriage. There are Critt. in northern Ga who are definitely Indian. They are listed on the Indian Rolls. Some in early NC. Suspect that these were ours. Where in Va did you find Thomas?
One old record calls Jerry & Thomas Critt. rascals and vandals who attacked some poor surveyor in the La bayous while he was trying to lay out parrish boundaries.
Let me know if there seems to be a connect. I think there is.
Diann
