Hello. Please send the info to me at AJBur1737@aol.com. My mother was a Crittenden and her family came from SC to NC and East Tenn to Arkansas. I have a lot of the info but not all that my mother had with me here in the UK. As to the origin of the name I expect that Druid theroy is right.
I live in London now and have been to the Crittenden House in Kent. All the names in that part of Kent end in ''den'. It is beautiful, very hilly and good apple farming area now. My grandfather was an apple farmer in Bentonville Ark. Looks very much like Kent. Funny. There used to be a Crittenden village there and it was a mining town. That is long gone. I am sure there is a Cherokee connection way back too. Find it though! The Cherokee were very adept at not getting registered and it is certainly in the Critt nature to take that on as a challenge.Native American religion is very similar and the Druid beliefs went underground here. There would have been a natural empathy between them. The Crittenden name was in the Cheroke nation from the earliest records according to one who worked for the BIA and research the name. Grey eyes and fair hair amongst em too. They were always in IT or near it and ahead of the land rush and removal too. Glad to see this line of discussion.
