James L. Crittenden, is James Love Crittenden, son of Alexander Parker Crittenden and Clara Churchill Jones. He supposedly fought in the Civil War for the CSA, and after the war first practiced law in New York City, and then in San Francisco, California, where he was the senior partner of the law firm of Crittenden & Van Wyck. His junior partner was Sidney McMechen Van Wyck, Jr., who was his nephew, being the son of Sidney McMechen Van Wyck, Sr. and Hannah "Nannie" Churchill Crittenden (sister of James Love Crittenden).
