I too have been trying to pin down my Crittenden family's connection to the Cherokee. My mom's paternal grandmother was Mary Edith Crittenden and she was adamant about her Cherokee bloodlines. In fact, she had her son Cleveland (my mom's dad) sent to schools on reservations to help him grow up with exposure to that heritage. Mary Edith's father was James Jackson Crittenden, born May 12, 1854 in Shady Grove, Pike Co., AL. Her mother was Martha Ann Gowan born July 2, 1854. James Jackson's father was John Seales Crittenden, born 1817 in Elbert Co, GA and his mother was Eveline Driver born 1817 in Jones Co, GA. Next I have John Seales's father as John Crittenden born about 1791. That's all I have on the Crittenden side... Continuing with Eveline Driver (James Jackson's mother), her father was William Driver born 1783 in North Carolina and her mother was Tabitha York born in 1787. Next, Tabitha York's parents were David York born 1765 in Talbot, GA and Kessiah Kendrick born 1761 in Georgia. Kessiah's parents were John Kendrick born 1732 in Prince George's, Maryland and Eleanor Offut born 1735. That's what I have so far on my Crittenden line. If anyone knows anything else or how to prove the Cherokee connection, please contact me!!! Thanks!!!! Notify Administrator about this message?
