I show an Alfred P. Crittenden (b 1829-30, CT) listed in the 1880 census for Westbrook, Middlesex County, Connecticut. His wife's name is Elizabeth M. (b 1839-40, CT). They have 3 children listed: Revilo F. (b 1870-71); Rosabelle L. (b 1875-75) and Bertha A. (b 1879-80). The son, Revilo F. Crittenden is not shown in any other documentation I have found. Strange as it may seem, my interest in this listing is brought on by my search for a Revilo F. Post (b Dec 1870 in CT) who is listed in the 1900-20 census in Middlesex County, Connecticut. Now, bear me out whilst I un-weave this tangled web of possibility... Revilo Crittenden's mother was Elizabeth M. (nee?), and she was b 1839-40 in CT. I have a listing for an Elizabeth M. Post who was b 1839-40, probably in Westbrook (dau Silas Holcomb Post). I have no listing for my Elizabeth M. Post's marriage. It is therefore not beyond the realm of possibility that my Elizabeth M. Post married Alfred P. Crittenden and was the mother of Revilo F. Crittenden. Revilo is not exactly what one might consider to be a common name and there are but 3 in Middlesex County (5 in the entire state of CT) in the 1880 census. Revilo F. Crittenden is the only one that fits the profile for my Revilo F. Post, who listed in the 1900 census. It is possible then, that Revilo F. Crittenden's parents "split the sheets" soon after the 1880 census, perhaps under less than amicable conditions and that (for some reason) Revilo took the surname Post. Does this story (or any story ending with the same ultimate result!) sound familiar to anyone here? Any help in either finding the maiden name of Elizabeth M. Crittenden or the history of Revilo F. Crittenden would be most gratefully received! Notify Administrator about this message?
