I'm likewise a descendant of Hiram, through his daughter who wed Orrin Jesse Thompson of Creston, IN. The Pendleton County, KY marriage record I'm aware of is dated March 3, 1833 for "Hiram Crutchfield" and "Hester Highfill." The Pioneer Women of Lake County booklet mentioned elsewhere on this forum suggests the Scritchfields came to Lake Co., IN. based on the recommendation of Hiram's aunt, Patsy Ammerman of LaPorte, IN. Both the Highfill and Ammerman families were early settlers at Short Creek, Pendleton County, KY. I think Esther was most likely the daughter of Leonard Highfill, a soldier of the War of 1812, who owned much property on Short Creek. Her father might also have been Leonard's brother, Jeremiah Highfill, but I seem to recall that "Leonard" was subsequently used as a Scritchfield family name.
